Meeting Co-lab: Meeting Tips for Participants with Tricia Conyers
Tricia and I connect on a common mission: how to give every professional the skills they need to run an effective meeting.
During our first call, Tricia asked me, “What’s a question you always get?” It’s a great question, and I struggled to answer it on the spot.
Tricia’s answer: “I get asked a lot, ‘How can I facilitate when I’m not the one leading the meeting.’”
BOOM 💥
Lightbulbs went off for both of us, and the inspiration for our first “co-lab”oration was born. Tricia and I decided to have an authentic conversation about mindsets and tips that anyone can use to help meetings run better.
3 Tips for When You’re Not the Facilitator
From me to we. Stop thinking about your personal agenda, and recognize that everyone in the meeting wants something out of it. Try to be open to a change in objective, even if it deviates from the expectations you came in with.
Be curious. If you’re always the one talking, ask a question instead. Better yet, notice who hasn’t spoken as much and help bring them to the table by asking for their thoughts.
Be brave. All it takes is one person consistently turning on their camera and being present to encourage others to do the same. It’ll make the conversation more engaging and productive, and the facilitator or meeting lead will thank you for it.
There’s more where that came from! You can listen to Tricia and I’s 45-minute un-filtered conversation to learn more.
